Sankofa is an African word from the Akan Tribe in Ghana. The literal translation of the word and the symbol is “it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.” Sankofa also identifies one of many Adinkra symbols which are popular proverbs and maxims, record historical events, express particular attitudes or behavior related to depicted figures, or concepts uniquely related to abstract shapes. This Igbega hoodie is to honor our African roots from West Africa.
